"From the beginning, Tropicale’s success is the collective work of thousands of people.”
Inspired by upbeat 1960s-style supper clubs, The Tropicale Restaurant was introduced to Palm Springs in 2007 and has since become an institution. Its hip, swanky décor is the setting for its distinctive World Cuisine.
As you walk in the front door, you're instantly enmeshed in a wonderful party, the tinkling of glasses, and a bar filled with people having fun. Whether you start your evening with a happy hour cocktail and then follow with dinner in our dining room or whether you’d prefer just to make a night sharing our exotic small plate selection, the Tropicale is always the place to be.
Our
50-seat bar is a hip mid-century style design lined with sexy black leather bar-stools and is reminiscent of the upbeat lounges of old Palm Springs. It wraps around the dining room and leads outside to one of the only outdoor bars in town. A great variety of cocktails are offered such as the Fiery Dragon, a concoction of vodka, Cointreau, tangerine, and lime, or perhaps one of the cool minty Mojitos. Adjacent to the outdoor bar is our covered dining area, lined with olive trees and fountains, comfortable lounge sofas and chairs. Or choose our open-air "Tiki" patio with date palm trees and fire torches, ideal for a romantic date or a party of up to 50 friends. Both outdoor patios have misters in the hot summer and heaters for cooler winter nights.
The menu is a provocative mix of zesty influences from around the world and is the culmination of a lifetime of cooking by its chef, Tony Di Lembo. At a very young age, Tony developed a passion for food and sealed his fate in the kitchen. He has boiled down forty-plus years of professional cooking and globe-trotting to present a repertoire of weekly, seasonal specials—from luscious comfort foods of his childhood to the exotic flavors of the cuisines of the world, foods that make you feel happy—dishes you’ll fall in love with and put a smile on your face. He has also published the Tropicale Restaurant Cookbook spotlighting some of the restaurant's best recipes, and more recently authored the award-winning Running Through the Swinging Doors, a literary voyage that chronicles his years of adventures and professional pandemonium in a witty and insightful behind-the-scenes journey into the soul of the restaurant industry.
THE MAITRE D'
Everyone is happy at Tropicale. And that has so much to do with the attention Ranz Wienert gives every guest who walks through the door. Every guest feels like they are the most important person of the night. In the small resort of Palm Springs, the restaurant is abuzz all year-round, largely due to the life and energy that Ranz adds to the mix. But don't let it fool you–the art of running the busiest restaurant and bar in town, the backstage frenzy of managing 100 employees, and the complexities of seating hundreds of guests a night is all kept quietly in the background. Everyone is smiling. It's always a party at Tropicale.
